Google Cloud and the Celo Foundation are supporting mission-aligned blockchain initiatives and early adoption of Google Cloud services. The cooperation will provide Celo creators with Google Cloud and Firebase credits, improving Celo’s mobile-first architecture and decentralized applications (Dapps).

Firebase, a Google mobile and online application development platform, offers authentication, real-time databases, cloud storage, and messaging to developers.

According to the statement, Google Cloud will mentor the Celo Foundation’s Founders in Residence program and participate in the virtual Celo Camp accelerator program, which helps entrepreneurs build sustainability-focused firms. The two groups also plan to co-host Web3 sustainability and innovation seminars.

“This new, extended cooperation between Google and the Celo Foundation strengthens the opportunity to cooperatively develop larger awareness for blockchain technology and its ability to scale real-world use cases on Celo,” said Xochitl Cazador, Celo Foundation’s head of ecosystem growth.

Cazador said that “Google Cloud’s core team will also assist the Celo Foundation via collaborative hackathons, seminars, and events focussed on the convergence of Web3 and sustainability. Both sides believe blockchain technology can solve environmental issues, and the alliance will reinforce that confidence.

“Highly technical onboarding procedures, complicated interfaces, and unfamiliar transaction fee currencies create huge obstacles to entry for such firms in the Web3 sector,” Cazador said of Celo Network sustainability startups. Cazador said Celo’s relationship with Google Cloud would “alleviate the load on new and existing initiatives, therefore helping ecosystem builders to handle today and tomorrow’s major sustainability concerns.”

Celo’s proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus makes it carbon-negative. It is a leader in regenerative finance (ReFi), which promotes sustainability in finance, in the Web3 community. Around 1,000 projects from 150 countries are on the site.

Celo Foundation president Rene Reinsberg highlighted the ReFi movement and Celo’s multichain strategy. Reinsberg believes layer-1 blockchains and layer-2 networks will attract more people to crypto.
