The fictitious proprietor of the Bitcoin.org domain, Cobra, has predicted what could potentially become the next Bitcoin (BTC) conflict. According to him, a conflict between two factions that will determine the scope and emphasis of Bitcoin is imminent and may materialize shortly.
Cobra posits that in this forthcoming struggle for BTC, one faction will endeavor to preserve the status quo of the cryptocurrency, while the other will strive to advance BTC by incorporating additional functionalities and features.
The first group he categorized as “ossificationists” sought to ensure the network’s stability to ensure its solidity; the second group he categorized as “improvers” sought the network’s evolution and improvement through continuous change.
Cobra failed to specify whether he supported the opposing side. His statement read:
Do we keep Bitcoin stable and secure, and take no risks with further soft forks, or do we continue to tinker and make changes to keep improving Bitcoin?

Nevertheless, he asserted that attempting to strike a balance between experimenting with BTC and preserving the integrity of the core network would not be sustainable in the long run.

Cobra anticipated that ossification would also pose challenges, given that failure to improve entailed inherent dangers. “For instance, if any cryptographic vulnerabilities are identified, remedial action would be required,” he elaborated.
