Alibaba will launch ChatGPT rival AI

With its own chatbot assistant, a Chinese e-commerce behemoth enters the global artificial intelligence (AI) competition. Alibaba announced the imminent release of a product similar to ChatGPT.

The new product will be dubbed Tongyi Qianwen, which translates to “seeking an answer by asking a thousand questions,” according to a BBC report from April 11.

The chatbot will be integrated with Alibaba’s extensive ecosystem of tech companies, including the DingTalk workplace messaging app and the Tmall Genie voice assistant smart speaker.

Initially, the chatbot will be able to communicate in English and Mandarin. Its duties include capturing conversations in writing, composing emails, and composing business proposals.

However, the most intriguing question is whether or not Tongyi Qianwen can perform creative duties like its American counterpart.

Microsoft published ChatGPT in November 2022 and subsequently incorporated it into its Bing web browser. The ability of generative AI to provide sophisticated information responses in a chat-like manner, imitate various writing styles on command, and ultimately assist users in the creation of all types of texts, from academic research to movie scripts, made global headlines.

Earlier, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, and Baidu, a Chinese tech colossus, announced the development of AI chatbots named Bard and Ernie, respectively.

In the meantime, China’s Cyberspace Administration will require chatbot developers to ensure that AI-generated content is “accurate” and does not “threaten security.” Article four of the guidelines, made available for public comment on April 11th, stipulates that such content must “reflect the fundamental values of socialism and must not contain subversion of state power.”
