Apple denies Uniswap’s request to deploy its mobile wallet

Uniswap’s mobile wallet was denied by Apple days before its December release, athough other self-custody-shifting wallets have been allowed.

Uniswap Labs has revealed its intentions to launch a new self-custodial mobile wallet that would enable users to swap on L1 or L2 networks without switching networks.

The wallet, according to Uniswap Labs, would let users see price charts and search for any token across many networks, including Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism.

To guarantee the highest level of security, Uniswap Labs collaborated with Trail of Bits to audit the wallet.

In addition, both imported and freshly generated wallets’ seed phrases and private keys will be encrypted and kept on devices using Apple’s secure enclave, which is prohibited from device backups.

Users will be able to manually save their seed phrases on paper or encrypt and store them on Apple’s iCloud, according to Uniswap.

Even though the first version of Uniswap Labs’ mobile wallet was approved in October, the company has had trouble with Apple’s App Store.

While other self-custody shifting wallets have been accepted, Apple rejected the final version of Uniswap’s only days before its scheduled December release.

Uniswap Laboratories said that it addressed Apple’s issues, answered all of their inquiries, and reaffirmed that their product complied with their criteria.

Apple has not yet approved the launch, thus Uniswap Labs is in limbo. Hence, Uniswap Labs is providing early access to a few thousand Testflight users while awaiting Apple’s launch approval.

Uniswap said in its release:

Apple won’t green-light our launch and we don’t know why. We are stuck in limbo.

On Feb. 6, Uniswap community members voted in favor of installing Uniswap v3 on the layer-2 protocol of the Boba Network on Ethereum, making the Boba Network the sixth chain to adopt Uniswap v3.

Many businesses, including GFX Labs, Blockchain at Michigan, Gauntlet, and ConsenSys, supported the initiative.
