Biden’s Coffee Mug Sparks Bitcoin Buzz

In a new “cringe” video advertising merchandise for his reelection campaign, President of the United States Joe Biden may have unwittingly become Bitcoin’s latest brand ambassador.

President Biden tweeted on August 3: “A cup of Joe has never tasted better,” alongside a video of himself sipping coffee from a mug.

The Bitcoin and crypto community was quick to notice the coffee mug’s design, which features his visage with glowing red “laser eyes—a popular element for Bitcoin enthusiasts to include in their profile pictures.

Although the origins of the meme are obscure, the laser eyes phenomenon began as part of a social media movement to drive Bitcoin’s price to $100,000 by the end of 2021—aa goal that did not materialize.

Tom Brady, Paris Hilton, and Elon Musk were formerly among the most notable laser-eyed personalities. Typically, it is used as a symbol to demonstrate their favorable outlook on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general.

The crypto community has flooded Biden’s post with responses, both delighted and amused by the apparent oversight. ” Joe Biden is currently a Bitcoin maxi, including laser irises and everything else.

“The haters are incredulous,” declared one user. Other users chimed in, stating that Biden had just provided the “biggest endorsement of Bitcoin in history” and that he was attempting to “win over Bitcoin maximalists.”

The community has criticized the Biden administration for its anti-crypto posture, which includes controversial tax proposals for digital asset miners and other “anti-crypto” political initiatives.

Thus, it is doubtful that the coffee mug’s design referenced Bitcoin. The name of the coffee mug is a reference to “Dark Brandon,”  Biden’s meme-based online alter ego.

The Dark Brandon meme depicts Biden as darker and harsher; his supporters frequently use it to highlight his policy successes.
