Brave Browser Update Enables Native SegWit BTC Accounts

Brave browser update aims to offer lower fees and improved error detection, with future plans to integrate shielded Zcash transactions.

Tuesday’s announcement by the company states that users can now establish and administer Native SegWit Bitcoin accounts with the most recent update to Brave Browser (version 1.63).

Currently, the group’s objective is to implement support for BRC-20 tokens and Ordinals by the end of the year.

The company asserts that Bitcoin, since its inception, has matured in the face of numerous obstacles and “established itself as a resilient asset class.” The approval of several spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in the United States recently suggests that institutional interest and adoption are increasing.

Furthermore, the emergence of decentralized finance and non-fungible tokens has broadened the applications of Bitcoin beyond its original roles as a medium of exchange for peer-to-peer transactions and a repository for value.

The company’s most recent product is designed to offer consumers reduced transaction fees and enhanced error detection compared to alternative Bitcoin account models.

Sending and receiving transactions from all supported Bitcoin address types is now possible with Brave Wallet, including Legacy, Nested SegWit, Native SegWit (recently added), and Taproot.

James Mudgett, vice president of Web3 products at the company, defined the objective of the feature expansion as follows:

“Our aim with Brave Wallet is to offer the most secure and privacy-considerate software wallet for everyday use. As the Bitcoin ecosystem expands with new apps and services, Brave Wallet will be there to put security and privacy first, to help keep users’ assets safe.”

Brave’s Roadmap: Enhancing Cryptocurrency Functionality

As stated in the announcement, the company intends to incorporate shielded Zcash transactions into Brave Wallet after the introduction of Native SegWit Bitcoin accounts. This integration will occur in collaboration with the Filecoin Foundation and Zcash.
