The British Army’s social media accounts were breached as hackers made a post of crypto scams, both on Twitter and YouTube.
The British Army has become the latest victim of the market’s widespread crypto frauds. On July 3, hackers took over the British Army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts and began posting crypto movies.
Following the hack, the British Army recovered control with a new post on Twitter that reads:
“Apologies for the temporary interruption to our feed. We will conduct a full investigation and learn from this incident. Thanks for following us and normal service will now resume.”
“The breach of the Army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts that occurred earlier today has been addressed, and an investigation is underway,” claimed another tweet from the British Ministry of Defence. The Army takes information security very seriously, and additional comment would be improper until their investigation is completed.”
The British Army’s Twitter account was renamed Bapesclan by the hackers. Then they posted a few posts about non-fungible tokens (NFTs). In addition, they modified the profile image to an ape-like cartoon with clown makeup.
Similarly, the hackers took control of the YouTube account, renaming it ‘Ark Invest’ and broadcasting cryptocurrency videos. Cathie Wood, known for her crypto wagers, runs Ark Invest, an investment management firm based in America. The aggregate following for both Twitter and YouTube accounts is currently close to 500,000 people.
Tobias Ellwood, the Chair of the House of Commons, stated, “This appears serious.” I hope the investigation’s findings and actions are correctly communicated.”
Crypto frauds have been on the rise, particularly during the recent year’s bull run. Hackers have exploited numerous DeFi bridges this year, taking hundreds of millions of dollars from investors. The most recent being a $100 million hack of Harmony’s Horizon bridge.
