With $1.7 million in funding, the startup cybersecurity company c/side, based in San Francisco, has come out of stealth mode. The company is creating security solutions to address vulnerabilities in third-party scripts installed in web browsers. Even though these scripts offer features like chatbots and analytics, improper monitoring and guarding could result in security flaws.

Scribble Ventures, a venture capital firm that specializes in early-stage digital firms, led the pre-seed funding round. Prominent cybersecurity experts Dan Scheinman, Kathy Korevec, and Jason Warner also invested in c/side. This support from seasoned business professionals demonstrates the potential of C/S’s web security strategy.

Kevin Weil, the Operator in Residence at Scribble Ventures, asserts that c/side is a pioneering cybersecurity company committed to safeguarding the browser supply chain from zero-day attacks. He also emphasized the c/side team’s wealth of experience, pointing out that members have worked at Microsoft, JP Morgan, and Cloudflare.

Investors also mentioned the increasing demand for solutions that address vulnerabilities in third-party scripts. Angel investor Dan Scheinman of c/side pointed out that PCI DSS 4.0, which requires more stringent security measures for third-party scripts, is one of the compliance requirements that is becoming more and more important.

Addressing the threat that vulnerabilities in third-party scripts pose

Using third-party scripts has its drawbacks. Although they offer features that improve the user experience, there may be security issues associated with them. Often, these scripts function on vulnerable systems, putting user information at risk.

c/side aims to close this gap by providing a set of tools for tracking, enhancing, and safeguarding third-party scripts. Their method uses AI-powered detection to quickly locate and eliminate threats.

The creator and CEO of c/side, Simon Wijckmans, stated, “We are developing a toolkit at c/side that manages third-party scripts with an advanced proxy service.” Belgian-born London-based Wijckmans highlights the solution’s double advantage of increased security and up to 30% better website speed.

The release of PCI DSS 4.0 by the Security Standards Council coincides with the emergence of C/SIDE. This more stringent norm emphasizes strong security measures, especially for companies that process digital payments. C/S specifically designs its technology to meet these compliance requirements.
