Caryn Marjorie turns simps into cash using AI replica

A 23-year-old Snapchat influencer appears to have taken a page from the SimpDAO playbook by releasing an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based companion version of herself through OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT.

The relevant influencer, Caryn Marjorie, has 1.84 million Snapchat subscribers and 215,000 Instagram followers.

Forever Voices created the CarynAI project, which utilizes over 2,000 hours of audio from Marjorie’s deleted YouTube recordings to create the virtual girlfriend.

It is available in text and audio formats, with the artificial intelligence closely replicating her actual intonation and speaking patterns.

According to documents seen by Fortune and cited in an article published on May 10, the initiative received 1,000 registrations in the first week of its early beta, which concluded on Tuesday.

Users pay approximately $1 per minute of interaction with CarynAI, which has already generated $71,610 during beta testing.

Marjorie also told Fortune that she expects to earn approximately $5 million per month in the future, as she only needs 20,000 of her large following to subscribe.

“Whether you need someone to be comforting or loving, or you just want to vent about something that happened at school or work, CarynAI will always be there for you,” she told Fortune, adding, “You can have limitless possible reactions with CarynAI; therefore, anything is truly possible in conversation.”

Blockchain analyst Eric Wall coined the term SimpDAO to describe crypto/NFT projects established by influencers or celebrities with extremely devoted fans.

These fans end up investing time, money, and decentralized organizations to ensure the success of the endeavor for their favorite character.

It appears that Marjorie has become an early pioneer of a new way to engage and monetize a devoted following through the use of AI.

Due in part to the free availability of ChatGPT, AI chatbots are becoming increasingly popular, and discussions of AI companions are becoming more frequent.

A fast Google search reveals websites that rank the “10 Best AI Girlfriend Apps to Customize Virtual Companion in 2023,” as well as reports that Replika bot users are proudly abusing their virtual girlfriends.
