UK Judge Rules in Favor of Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA)
On Thursday, a UK judge determined that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto, the writer of the Bitcoin whitepaper. Following the final arguments in the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) trial, Judge James Mellor concluded that “overwhelming” evidence shows that Wright is not the author of the historic document.
Furthermore, Judge Mellor stated that he intends to issue a decision outlining his findings, including that the Australian computer scientist did not invent the Bitcoin system. “I will make certain declarations, which I am satisfied are useful and necessary to do justice between the parties,” Mellor adds. He would add, “First, Dr. Wright did not write the Bitcoin white paper. Second, Dr. Wright differs from the person who used the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto from 2008 to 2011. Third, Dr. Wright was not the creator of the Bitcoin system. Fourth, he still needs to create the original versions of Bitcoin software. Any additional relief will be addressed in my written ruling.
COPA Aims to Prevent Future Craig Wright Claims
The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) also filed injunctions against Wright, preventing him from claiming to be the creator of Bitcoin. Wright’s attorney objected to the motion, arguing that the restriction would be unusual and “sinister.”
Dr. Craig Wright of Australia has claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto since 2016. However, bitcoin specialists have long questioned his statements and the supporting data. Wright has yet to comment publicly on the outcome of the trial. The experiment lasted just six weeks.
