Friend.tech is experimenting with a novel approach to the decentralized social network by permitting users to tokenize themselves and sell shares as “keys” to admirers and followers. Those who purchase these shares will become proprietors and will be able to communicate directly with the creator.

We also look at retention to make sure users enjoy friendtech enough to return. Over 75% of key holders use our app the next day and over 50% are still using it after a week pic.twitter.com/rBarX9QGOo— friend.tech (@friendtech) August 29, 2023
Since launching as an invite-only public beta on August 10, the number of transactions on the app has decreased by more than 90%, from a zenith of nearly 525,000 on August 10 to less than 50,000 on August 28.
In addition, the app has received much criticism, prompting its creator to issue an apology for issuing a warning to confiscate all points on the app if its users partake in copycat applications. This led the community to believe that this was an unjust competitive action, while friend.tech received feedback that the DeSo BitCloud application in 2021 had similarities.
