X (formerly Twitter) has taken another move toward becoming an “everything app” after Elon Musk tested streaming video games on the platform.

Musk streamed himself playing the popular online action role-playing game Diablo 4 for fifty minutes on October 6. As the event began, Musk stated, “Our goal is for the audio to sound normal, the image to look decent so that it does not flicker, and the comments to function.”

While the feature is still in its early phases of development, the stream quality remained consistent throughout, and Musk appeared pleased with the work the developers have accomplished thus far. “It’s cool that it works at all,” he said.

Musk answered some questions from his viewers and provided additional context regarding X’s goals near the conclusion of the livestream. “Streaming will be added to Xbox and PS5.

“You know that we’re not trying to do everything better than every other app, but we want to say that if you want to do something within the X system or the X platform, you can do it,” he said, adding:

“I think the very specialist apps are still gonna be probably better than us in a lot of ways, but you know, I think we can be the best generalist app. There’s some value to being a generalist app for, I guess, discovery and for interacting with the largest number of people in the world.”

Musk did not reveal anything about payments or cryptocurrency being integrated with streaming for aspects such as subscriptions or donations.

There appears to be considerable interest in the move. At the time of writing, the stream, or “broadcast,” has had 2.8 million viewers in just a few hours since the session concluded, while the tweet highlighting the stream has more than 5,300 retweets and 9.3 million views.

Musk explained that the July rebranding of Twitter to X was part of his plans to develop an “everything app” that contains a vast array of social media features and supports financial services, including cryptocurrency.

This emphasis has led X to introduce, among other features, the revenue share model for X Premium subscribers and the ability for users to publish videos and content directly on the platform.
