Hassabis Claims Gemini AI Will Outperform OpenAI’s ChatGPT

DeepMind’s CEO stated that the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) system would be “more capable” than OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Demis Hassabis, the CEO of DeepMind, is quoted in a Wired article as saying that the company’s Gemini AI is a significant language model (LLM) that uses text similarly to ChatGPT’s processes but will be outfitted with new capabilities such as planning and problem-solving.

The system will be founded on the technology and techniques employed by DeepMind’s 2016 AlphaGo, an early artificial intelligence system.

In addition to that, he brought up “innovations,” which he described as being “pretty interesting.” Gemini was one of several artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies shown at Google’s I/O developer conference in May, along with other AI-based products.

According to Hassabis, developing Gemini would cost tens or maybe hundreds of millions of dollars. He also predicts that the launch of Gemini is still many months away.

According to him, there is no conceivable explanation for why the things now being built with Gemini “won’t work.”

In addition, the CEO of DeepMind emphasized the “urgent” need for additional research into the potential dangers posed by more capable AI systems. Hassabis previously stated that human-level AI could emerge before 2033.

The announcement of Gemini follows the rapid release of Google’s AI chatbot Bard, which competes with OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT. Former Google employees expressed skepticism about Bard’s “concerns for society.”

Already, Google Bard has been prevented from launching in the European Union due to accusations from Irish regulators that the company failed to submit the required paperwork.
