Hi Debit Mastercard Adds SAND Token for European Use

Users of the hi debit Mastercard can now spend Sandbox’s SAND token on eligible markets within the European Economic Area, according to an announcement published on Wednesday. The card already permits the use of Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and USDT.

Sandbox is a subsidiary of Metaverse gaming and venture capital giant Animoca Brands, which in July invested $30 million in hi, a cryptocurrency payments application.

As a digital-only application operating as a neobank, Hi offers banking services that permit users to transact in crypto or fiat.

The debit card, which can also be customized with NFTs, was announced in 2022, but the first shipment of NFT-customized cards has only just been made, according to hi co-founder Sean Rach.

It has been a lengthy process of product design and development to create the best user experience for our community. We are also considering offering additional tokens within the Animoca ecosystem,” he explained.

Two months after Mastercard and Visa ended their partnerships with Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, NFT cards are being issued.

Mastercard did not disclose the reasoning behind its decision to distance itself from Binance then. It reiterated the same stance in response to an inquiry about the most recent development. At the time, it was reported that the event was unlikely to harm Binance.

Mastercard has partnerships with several crypto payment companies, such as Baanx, Credencial Payments, Episode 6, Immersve, Monavate, Moorwand, PayCaddy, Paymentology, Pomelo, Swap, and Unlimit.
