Ian Freeman Sentenced to 8 Years in Federal Prison

Ian Freeman, the final defendant in the Crypto Six saga, was sentenced by a federal magistrate on Monday following his conviction at the end of December.

During the period preceding his sentencing, Freeman was not incarcerated, but after he was sentenced, U.S. Marshals escorted him to prison.

At 43, Freeman told the court his belief that he had not violated the law, stating that his cryptocurrency sales venture sought to promote cryptocurrency adoption.

Mark Edge, co-host of Free Talk Live, wrote after the sentencing:

“Ian Freeman received 8 years in federal prison with 2 years probation. He was taken into custody. Appeal to follow.”

The crypto community voiced their opposition to the sentence on social media platforms. “Ian Freeman was recently sentenced to eight years in prison for peddling bitcoin through his ATM,” Bruce Fenton informed his audience.

Also contributing was the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire (LPNH).

The LPNH post proclaimed, “Ian Freeman has been sentenced to 96 months for the ‘crime’ of selling bitcoin without the appropriate government documentation.”

“Thanks to sound money, the days tyrants can enforce such decrees are numbered.”

Bitcoin devotee Mandrick lamented “terrible news” on social media platform X: “Ian Freeman was given an eight-year federal penitentiary sentence.I first learned about Bitcoin through his podcast, Free Talk Live, where I also met my wife. Freeman and Edge were the first to advertise bitcoin on a syndicated radio station through their Free Talk Live (FTL) broadcast.”

Since its inception in 2011, the syndicated broadcast has embraced Bitcoin for advertising. For over a decade, FTL’s national radio segments have promoted Bitcoin during the program and in advertisements.
