Not yet—and don’t bother asking. “Do not ask me to do a fucking NFT,” the rapper and fashion designer said in a handwritten message on a sheet of paper, which he posted on Instagram on Monday evening.

“STOP ASKING ME TO DO NFT’s… FOR NOW, I’M NOT ON THAT WAVE I MAKE MUSIC AND PRODUCTS IN THE REAL WORLD,” he says on all caps, as if the note in the photo wasn’t apparent enough.

Music and NFTs

The music business has fully embraced NFTs, the blockchain-based tokens that serve as proof of ownership of a digital or physical asset, with musicians such as Kings of Leon and Grimes presenting their new albums as NFTs.

A wave of rappers, particularly in hip-hop, have gone on the NFT bandwagon. Eminem, KSI, Future, DJ Khaled, Rich the Kid, and Post Malone have all purchased high-priced Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs, while Timbaland has gone one step further by founding a production firm specifically for Bored Ape NFT owners.

Nas is the first artist to release two new singles as NFTs on Royal, DJ Justin “3LAU” Blau’s new music NFT platform.

“For the time being,” Kanye says he doesn’t want any of it. In his Instagram image, he added “Ask me later” beneath his “Ye” signature and the handwritten letter.
