Hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger has integrated its Ledger Live software with PayPal, the companies announced jointly on August 16.

According to the announcement, the integration enables U.S. residents with verified PayPal accounts to buy Bitcoin, Ether, Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin directly through Ledger Live without additional verification.

Previously, Ledger Live permitted users to purchase cryptocurrency via partners MoonPay, Transak, Ramp, Simplex, Loopipay, and Mercuryo.

The most recent addition to this list is PayPal. The announcement stated that when a user purchases cryptocurrency via PayPal and Ledger Live, the cryptocurrency is immediately sent to the user’s wallet, and no “withdrawal” procedure is required.

Pascal Gauthier, chairman and CEO of Ledger, asserted that integrating Ledger Live with PayPal would simplify crypto transactions without compromising security.

“We’re combining the uncompromising security of Ledger with PayPal’s leadership in protected payments technology to help facilitate a seamless platform for user crypto transactions. Ledger is committed to simplifying the world of crypto and PayPal is committed to making the movement of money as simple, reliable and affordable as possible.”

Since 2016, Ledger claims to have sold over 3 million Ledger Nano S hardware wallets, making it one of the leading manufacturers of hardware wallets.

In May, it launched a covert recovery phrase storage service that led to user confusion and sparked controversy. The team later attempted to quell criticism by explaining how their wallet functions.

PayPal announced on August 7 that it is launching a stablecoin called PYUSD, but as of August 15, PYUSD is not listed as one of the coins that will be available on Ledger Live.
