Microsoft Claims Chinese Hackers Compromised US Infrastructure

Microsoft has said that hackers working for the Chinese government have attacked and broken into critical US systems. The company also said the attack was meant to gather information about several areas.

Microsoft formally warned about a group of hackers called Volt Typhoon. So, since the middle of 2021, the Chinese group has been working to threaten the systems that keep communication between the US and Asia going.

Chinese Hackers Threaten Microsoft

Microsoft has said that a group of hackers working for the Chinese government broke into critical US systems. This is a very worrying development. Also, these hackers have tried to mess with “critical communications infrastructure between the United States and Asia” to make it harder to deal with “future crises.”

The message says that the hacks are still going on. Microsoft also told its affected customers to “close or change credentials for all compromised accounts.” The tech giant then said that the group could still break through cyber defences using a security suite called Fortiguard.

The hacker group then uses the access it has gained to try to steal user passwords and get into different company rooms, Microsoft said. On the other hand, the company says that the group is not yet trying to cause trouble. But they “plan to do espionage and keep access for as long as possible without getting caught.”

The company said the infrastructure in almost all the most critical areas had been damaged. The information and transportation businesses are two of these. The group has also gone after groups that work for the government.

On the other hand, the company’s public statement talks about several tools it uses to find problems and defend itself.
