A missing cryptocurrency millionaire and Instagram influencer from Argentina was discovered dismembered in a suitcase police suspect he was murdered.

Fernando Pérez Algaba, a cryptocurrency trader and influencer, was reported missing on July 18 after he failed to return the keys to a leased apartment and answer his phone.

Less than a week later, on July 23, a group of juveniles in the Argentine capital’s province of Ingeniero Budge discovered his remains. The suitcase contained amputated legs and extremities.

On July 24, after draining the stream where the suitcase was discovered, authorities discovered a torso. On July 25, a cranium was discovered in a backpack the following day. The missing millionaire’s body was identified by fingerprints and tattoos, and an autopsy revealed that he was shot three times before being dismembered.

Investigators are reportedly of the opinion that Algaba’s assassination may have been the work of a professional group with a possible debt-related motive.

One potential suspect has already been apprehended in connection with the investigation. Algaba is said to have been a cryptocurrency merchant in Buenos Aires, where he managed a trading office with 25 employees.

In addition, he had garnered a sizeable Instagram following, with over 917,000 followers. The majority of the content focuses on luxury automobiles and his adored dog.

Reportedly, Algaba owed 900,000 Argentine pesos ($3,300) in bounced checks, 1.2 million Argentine pesos ($4,400) to institutions, and an additional $70,000 in bounced check debt.

Late in 2022, a series of unexplained and sudden crypto billionaire deaths sparked wild rumors in the community.

Between October and December 2022, MakerDAO co-founder Nikolai Mushegian, crypto broker Javier Biosca, Amber Group co-founder Tiantian Kullander, Russian crypto magnate Vyacheslav Taran, and major Bithumb shareholder Park Mo perished in what appeared to be untimely circumstances.
