Musée d’Orsay’s NFT Collection Release

The Musée d’Orsay unveils “The Convergence of Breath,” a collection of NFT artworks created by experimental artists.

A collection of tokenized artworks from the inaugural commission of an on-chain exhibition by the Musée d’Orsay will be released to the public on Thursday. These works are the creation of two experimental artists, the result of months of coordination by the museum’s leadership, and thousands of exhales from unaware strangers.

“The Convergence of Breath,” a collection of five single-edition NFTs minted on the Tezos blockchain, is the title of an art installation (and partial social experiment) currently on display at the Musée d’Orsay.

The installation is a component of the museum’s ongoing, digital-themed exhibition, “Le Code d’Orsay.”

The steel sculpture known as “Sigma Lumina” was a collaborative effort between Johan Lescure and the French artist and DJ Sébastian Devaud (also known as Agoria), who created the installation.

The sculpture generates a QR code in its shadow when illuminated by the ideal alignment of light from above.

Curious visitors to the museum who scan the QR code are subsequently directed to a page where they can generate a one-of-a-kind, complimentary NFT that references other Impressionist masterpieces on display at the Orsay.

However, this is contingent upon the condition that they inhale it into their mobile devices to aid in its generation.

Agoria and Lescure have now synthesized the data from those blows—to date, museum visitors have minted over 2,000 “Sigma Lumina” NFTs—into a series of five distinct NFTs, one for each week of the exhibition’s run.

Agoria stated, “I adore the fact that all the impacts of all the attendees [to the exhibition] are now connected to form a global piece.”

Objkt will sell the five “Convergence of Breath” NFTs on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. CET—a curated marketplace for unique on-chain works of art. “Le Code d’Orsay” is on display until March 10 at the Musée d’Orsay.
