Nakamoto, Back’s Email Exchange Revealed

UK Court records unveil email exchange between Satoshi Nakamoto and Adam Back, shedding light on bitcoin’s origins and their collaboration.

This week, the complete email exchange between Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, and Adam Back, the inventor of Hashcash, was recorded in the official court records of the United Kingdom.

The complete correspondence between Nakamoto and Back, who was referenced in the seminal Bitcoin white paper, is detailed in the five emails that follow. The emails reveal the two cryptography titans engaging in their initial discussion regarding the project.

While Back has made prior references to the emails, alluding to the conversation and specifically his initial failure to read the Bitcoin white paper, the emails constitute the initial disclosure of the complete text.

It has long been hypothesized that Adam Back, the CEO of Blockstream and a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency industry, was involved in the development of Bitcoin. However, these emails will probably dispel such suspicions.

The correspondence between the two individuals was characterized by courtesy and professionalism.

Adam Back directed Satoshi to several pertinent papers, while Satoshi endeavored to clarify the distinctive contributions that he introduced to Back’s previous research.

Hashcash was a technique devised by Adam Back during the 1990s to impede email spam. It operated by requiring a computer’s processor to validate that it had performed calculations before transmitting the data.

The system serves as the foundation for the Bitcoin mining system, wherein a decentralized network of computers competes to decipher cryptographic puzzles and is rewarded with circulating additional Bitcoins into the economy.

It has come to light that Satoshi attempted to communicate with Back elsewhere by emailing him in January 2009, following the publication of the Bitcoin software.

Nakamoto’s Identity Speculations

The resurgence of curiosity regarding the authentic identity of Satoshi Nakamoto has been sparked by the release of these emails this week, which coincides with the disclosure of additional emails authored by Satoshi’s early collaborators.

Despite being a fascinating historical artifact, these emails provide little insight into Bitcoin’s fundamental mysteries.
