NFT Artist Raises $140,000 for Cancer Treatment

A nonfungible token (NFT) artist raised nearly $140,000 (114,000 British pounds) for cancer treatment at an art exhibition in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Maggie’s Edinburgh, a facility that provides free cancer treatment, received 114,000 pounds from the popular Scottish crypto artist Trevor Jones, who garnered funds through a charity exhibition and auction at the annual Web3 Castle Party near Paris.

According to Maggie’s Edinburgh Fundraising, the funds raised by Jones were the largest single donation from an art event in the 27-year history of the Edinburgh Center.

Maggie’s Edinburgh’s spokesperson ascribed the organization’s success to “the support and enthusiasm of the NFT art community.” The total proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to assist 4,000 cancer patients and locals in need of critical assistance.

Thirty artists participated in the exhibition held at the Chateau de Vallery near Paris. Jones, speaking about the event, stated that since NFTs gained mainstream attention in 2021, the sub-ecosystem has assisted the community in contributing to several charitable endeavors.

“The funds raised (from NFT artists) will make a huge difference and will go to support services for those affected by a cancer diagnosis — patients and their families. This is certainly a wonderful way to remember such a beloved artist, also taken by this disease.”,

NFT and cryptocurrency investors have aided global society in a variety of ways, from promoting mental health and protecting conflict victims to assisting United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) endeavors.

In addition, the United States Federal Election Commission authorized the use of NFTs as an incentive for campaign fundraising last year.

In the past, Coca-Cola and the Singapore Red Cross, as well as government agencies, have opted for NFT and cryptocurrency donations to fund various philanthropic initiatives.
