OpenAI’s upcoming release, GPT-5, is anticipated to launch this summer, promising significant advancements over its predecessors.

The latest edition of OpenAI’s multimodal big language model, GPT-5, is allegedly ready to be released in the next few months by the AI startup run by Sam Altman.

Business Insider cites two sources acquainted with the matter when it says that OpenAI may unveil GPT-5 in the summer. One CEO who witnessed a demo of GPT-5 recently described it as “really good, like materially better.” The startup apparently offers demos to enterprise customers.

The GPT-4 was introduced by the business in March 2023. That year also saw the release of a revised version, the GPT-4 Turbo.

When OpenAI introduced GPT-4 Turbo, they said on their blog that it was “more capable” and could predict global events up until April 2023. More than 300 pages of text can fit in a single prompt thanks to its 128k context window.

Through its partnership with Figure AI, OpenAI is not only developing GPT-5 but also advancing toward deploying its technology in humanoid robots. By enabling Figure’s humanoid robots to process and “reason” from natural language, this alliance hopes to speed up the timeframe for Figure’s product.

Tech giants are in a heated competition to be the first to market humanoid robots. Updates to its Isaac robotics platform, a new computer named Jetson Thor, and Project GR00T, a general-purpose foundation model for humanoid robots, were all recently unveiled by Nvidia.

Earlier this year, OpenAI introduced Sora, an artificial intelligence program that can generate extremely lifelike one-minute films in response to user-supplied material. Currently, Sora is in the process of red-teaming, which involves finding system problems. By feeding it video examples, Sora is able to train a neural network that can transform 60-second-long written scene descriptions into high-definition video footage. Its technological and cinematic allure stems from its outperformance of competing AI video-making tools.

Red teaming has not yet begun, which is a crucial phase; therefore, the release of GPT-5 might be delayed. At an organization’s behest, a “red team” will pose as an adversary, launch an attack (whether digital or physical), and then report back with details on how the company may strengthen its defenses.
