Ripple vs. SEC Trial Date Set Amid Attorney Changes

Multiple attorneys for defendants Ripple Labs, Ripple executives, and the plaintiff U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are present and absent throughout the week, keeping Judge Analisa Torres and court officials occupied.

As the judge scheduled a trial for the remaining arguments in the case, three SEC attorneys withdrew from the litigation. According to a court filing, Judge Analisa Torres has granted Pascale Guerrier’s motion to withdraw as attorney for the SEC.

According to the most recent court filings, two additional SEC attorneys have filed separate motions to withdraw from the lawsuit.

The Securities and Exchange Commission informed the court that attorneys Richard Best and Robert MacKay Moye have withdrawn from the lawsuit.

Richard Best is on an extended medical leave and is no longer involved in the US SEC v. Ripple case. Judge Torres authorized Best’s dismissal from the case.

However, the judge has not yet granted Robert MacKay Moye’s motion to withdraw. In the meantime, Judge Torres approved the attorneys, Michael A. Schulman for Brad Garlinghouse, Marc J. Jones, and Peter Bryan Moores for the US SEC.

As both parties informed Judge Torres of their unavailability during the second quarter of 2024, the Ripple vs. SEC trial is likely to occur between April 22–26, 2024, or by the end of April.

The CEO and executive chairman of Ripple, Brand Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen, have informed Judge Analisa Torres that they will be unavailable for trial from April 1 to April 14, 2024.

Intriguingly, the dates announced by Ripple executives coincide with the Bitcoin halving.

The price of XRP has increased by 3% over the past 24 hours and is currently trading at $0.52. The 24-hour minimum and maximum values are 0.516 and 0.534, respectively.
