The Most Interesting Man in the World Endorses Bitwise’s Bitcoin ETFs

Jonathan Goldsmith, the actor known for portraying “The Most Interesting Man in the World” in Dos Equis beer commercials, is now adopting his iconic persona to promote Bitwise Asset Management’s Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Goldsmith frequently appeared in beer ads, and on December 18, Bitwise published an advertisement featuring him on X (Twitter). The advertisement had Goldsmith displaying “The Most Interesting Man in the World” in a high-end bar.

Instead, the actor delivered a cryptocurrency-focused message to the audience, without uttering his characteristic phrase “Stay thirsty, my friends” while holding a bottle of Dos Equis: From 2006 to 2018, Goldsmith featured in numerous advertisements, promoting himself as “The Most Interesting Man in the World.”

The commercials featured hilarious “facts” about his character, including statements like “he is the only man to ever ace a Rorschach test” and “he is on the upgrade list for flights he hasn’t even checked into.” The actor, who is 85 years old, brought the character back to life for a commercial that aired during the Super Bowl in 2019 and for a brand of tequila.

However, the “Most Interesting Man” has mainly stayed out of the public eye for many years, except for the revival of memes. His endorsement of Bitwise came at a time when the asset manager was in the process of submitting an application to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission for a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).

The Securities and Exchange Commission has never approved listing and trading of a spot Bitcoin or Ether exchange-traded product on a U.S. exchange. The commission postponed its judgment on Bitwise’s spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in August, leading the asset manager to modify its application in September.

It is not uncommon for large cryptocurrency companies to employ well-known individuals like Goldsmith in order to market their products and services.

Just like soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo promoting Binance and Tom Brady starring in advertisements for FTX, these actors occasionally face lawsuits after a collapse or enforcement action. This is the case even though many campaigns are successful.
