The first issue of the modern postage stamp was released in four editions by the Emirates Post Group, a government-owned post agency. A digital version of each physical stamp in the collection is included.

The “Golden Jubille 2021,” which includes a total of 2021 pieces and costs 2021 AED ($550 USD), is the most costly edition. One gram of gold is contained on each stamp.

The second stamp is titled “Spirit of the Union — 1971,” and it commemorates the founding fathers’ foundation of the UAE. The third stamp is titled “Year of the 50th — 2021,” while the fourth is titled “Projects of the 50th 2071,” which represents the UAE’s futuristic vision.

The other three collections are less expensive, with each nonfungible token (NFT postage stamp) costing around 250 AED ($68).

Cointelegraph spoke with Abdullah Al Ashram, the CEO of the post organization, to learn more about the concept behind the debut of digital collectible postal stamps. The decision was made to commemorate the Founding Day, and anyone from anywhere in the world can purchase it, according to Ashram.

“It’s definitely a part of the broader strategy and blockchain will be the key to many projects at Emirates Post roup.”

The Emirates Post Group became the first and only company in the Middle East and North Africa to introduce the NFT postal stamps. Over the last year, blockchain has become a critical component of the UAE’s commercial strategy.
