TikTok Challenges Twitter with New Text-Based Feature

TikTok, a social media behemoth, announced the launch of a feature designed to dethrone Twitter (recently rebranded as X) as the dominant text-based social media platform.

TikTok entered the competition just 20 days after Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta launched Threads to compete with X by enabling TikTokers to create and post text-based content.

The new feature seeks to provide a platform for users to express their creativity through captions and comments.

When creating a new post on TikTok, users have the option of selecting a photo, video, or text. TikTok allows greater customization of text postings than Threads and X, allowing users to include features such as location and music.

According to TikTok, other features “to make your text-based content stand out” include stickers, hashtags, background hues, and draft saving.

While TikTok endeavors to distinguish itself from its competitors, Threads has been accused of blatantly copying a user interface that Twitter has utilized for over a decade.

However, the visual similarities between Threads and X no longer stand alone. Threads have recently implemented rate limits to prevent crypto and spam programs from posting.

Spam assaults have increased, so we’ll have to tighten up on things like rate limits, which will result in more unintentional limitations of active users (false positives).

If you are affected by these protections, please let us know,” Instagram’s CEO Adam Mosseri explained.
