To combat cryptocurrency crimes, the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom is hiring two blockchain investigators for its newly formed digital assets unit within the Complex Financial Crime Unit (CFCT).

The position entails supervising complex investigations involving cryptocurrency and digital assets from a Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) standpoint.

The POCA pertains to the confiscation and redistribution of criminal proceeds for community benefit. The optimal candidate will be a certified, accredited financial investigator (AFI) who is already employed by the police department.

In addition, additional qualifications include expertise in blockchain analysis, criminal investigation, and legal knowledge, among others.

In addition to other civil service benefits programs, the salary for this position is approximately 47,380 British pounds ($61,076.37).

The NCA established the NCCU Crypto Cell in January 2023 to investigate cyber incidents involving the use of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.

The NCA intends to increase its regulatory focus on crypto assets in the United Kingdom in response to the government’s call to eradicate “dirty money” in the nation.

Director of infrastructure investigations for the NCA, Chris Lewis-Evans, said at the time, “This is a really exciting opportunity that involves working in a team at the forefront of protecting the U.K. from cybercrime.”
