World ID Surpasses Two Million Users

Over two million people have signed up for World ID, the “global identity protocol” created by Worldcoin, a cryptocurrency and digital identification project.

According to a statement released on July 13, the World ID project surpassed two million in less than half the time it took to reach one million.

World ID intends to provide a “global digital passport” that users can store on their phones to prove their identity, while zero-knowledge proofs safeguard their privacy.

To enroll in the World ID program and obtain a “digital passport,” individuals must visit a sphere and have one of their eyeballs scanned.

This generates a one-of-a-kind “IrisHash,” which is used to verify their uniqueness.

Users who successfully upload their sensitive biometric data are compensated with Worldcoin, a self-titled cryptocurrency.

Worldcoin attributed its recent surge in registrations to a multicity tour that included Barcelona, Berlin, and Tokyo.

It was stated that the time averaged 40,000 new verified World ID members per week.

Worldcoin anticipates that these chrome, five-pound, eye-scanning devices known as “Orbs” will become more widely available in the coming months due to increased demand.

“Additionally, just as more people are signing up, a growing number of apps and services are making use of the World ID protocol.”

It was also mentioned that other protocols, such as Okta’s Auth0 and Talent Protocol, have begun utilizing World ID and Worldcoin for their respective onboarding processes.

The World App, a gas-free crypto wallet for verified humans that operates on Android and iOS, was released by the project on May 8.

On May 25, roughly two weeks later, Worldcoin secured $115 million in Series C funding to support the expansion of its World ID program.
