Aptos Network Resumes Operations After 5-Hour Outage

Aptos Network, a layer-1 blockchain, has returned its network to normal operations following a five-hour outage that “impacted” network transactions.

According to the Aptoscan network tracker, on-chain transactions on the blockchain based on the Move programming language were suspended at 11:11 UTC on October 18 at block 104621314, resulting in a more than five-hour outage.

Aptos appeared to confirm the outage via a post on X (previously Twitter), stating:

“Your energy for Aptos One was so electric, you cut the lights!”

At the time, the team added that “transactions on the network have been impacted” and that they were “working diligently” to resolve the issue.

The outage subsequently prompted crypto exchanges Upbit and OKX to notify users of maintenance for the Aptos network, adding that APT deposits and withdrawals were temporarily suspended.

Before the outage, Aptos Labs posted a birthday message stating, “A year has passed since Aptos Mainnet exploded onto the scene.”

Aptos, a heavily VC-backed project that launched on October 17, 2022, was created by former Meta employees who worked on the Diem blockchain for Facebook.

It may be outage season, as Aptos is not the only chain to experience outages in recent weeks.

The Theta Network team announced on October 19 that a recent node upgrade caused an “edge case bug” that halted block production on the main chain for several hours.

It was further stated that a fix had been implemented and the network was now operating normally.

In September, the Coinbase layer-2 network Base experienced its first significant outage since its launch.
