Hollywood Stars Strike AI Protection Deal

Reuters reports that Hollywood actors and media workers have reached a tentative agreement with major record labels, including Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, that includes prohibitions against the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and increases in minimum compensation.

The agreement also includes an increase in the minimum salary. SAG-AFTRA’s executive committee, which represents approximately 160,000 Hollywood stars and other media professionals, unanimously approved the agreement, which covers a period of time from 2021 to 2026, according to a statement that was published on the organization’s website.

SAG-AFTRA and major studios began conversations over the matter last year, which ultimately resulted in a contract in November following a strike that lasted for many months.

The AI protection arrangement comes at a time when the entertainment industry has become more concerned with artificial intelligence (AI). Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is a technique that offers users of the internet the ability to quickly mimic the voices of musicians, frequently without the consent of the artists.

Songs produced using generative AI are particularly challenging the music industry. In the years to come, AI will present an infinite number of opportunities for the film business.

AI Protection Deal Only A Safeguard

There is an increasing demand for technology in the field of virtual filmmaking, where it can assist in the creation of lifelike virtual environments, hence eliminating the requirement for actual sets.

This technological advancement has the potential to radically revolutionize the filmmaking process due to its increased creative flexibility and reduced production expenses.

The creation of narratives using AI is yet another potential field. Artificial intelligence could make suggestions for stories and genres that are likely to appeal to viewers by assessing cultural trends and the tastes of the audience.

Films that closely align with the audience’s interests could potentially achieve greater success through predictive storytelling. The film industry cannot control artificial intelligence due to its rapid advancements and the potential for dependency.

On the other hand, the artificial intelligence protection arrangement likely aims to prevent individuals involved in the business from receiving credit for their contributions.
