Langdock Raises $3M to Revolutionize Business AI Adoption

Langdock, a startup aims to bridge the gap between businesses and large language models (LLMs) without locking them into a single platform.

Many big businesses believe it’s too early to commit to a single core paradigm, yet many still want to be part of the AI revolution. This suggests that there is a demand for a layer that stands between businesses and large language models (LLMs), allowing them to select LLMs quickly and without being locked into a single platform.

Langdock is targeting a specific market for its conversation interface, which stands in between LLMs and a business. Recently, the German business, partnering with La Famiglia for its European seed stage and General Catalyst, led a $3 million seed round.

Lennard Schmidt, co-founder and CEO of Langdock, told the media that “companies don’t want to have a vendor lock-in on just one of those LLM providers.” Therefore, we have designed an interface that allows an organization to choose which of the underlying models from various vendors staff members can use.

According to Schmidt, businesses can host their own models, use open-source models, or access basic models through Langdock’s chat interface.

Together with over 25 additional angel investors, Y Combinator and a number of well-known German innovators participated in the fundraising round, including Rolf Schrömgens (Trivago), Hanno Renner (Personio), Johannes Reck (GetYourGuide), and Erik Muttersbach (Forto).

Here, Langdock is “going heavy” on the notion that businesses in the EU will want to properly and securely incorporate LLMs in a way that complies with regulations. This is especially indicative of a European play.

This allows staff members to work in a slightly more restricted setting, such as adding sensitive documents, using multiple LLMs, and constructing prompt libraries.

Apart from the chat interface, the firm provides cloud, on-premises, and security solutions.

Among the companies Langdock lists as clients are Merck, GetYourGuide, HeyJobs, and Forto. Merck’s 63,000 workers now have access to the startup’s interface. “We are early adopters of GenAI and see a paradigm shift in how technology can enable our employees to become more effective and efficient in their daily work lives,” said Walid Mehanna, chief data and AI officer at Merck, in a statement. Not every company tackles this space like Langdock does.

Sequoia supports Dust, a Paris-based startup that has already raised €5 million. The business is developing an interface that businesses can utilize to take advantage of LLMs for a range of purposes, including internal reporting, customer service, research, and more. On the other hand, any type of staff member can use Langdock’s chat interface, which is suitable for a wider range of use cases.
