Sapien AI Secures $5M Funding for Blockchain-Based Training

Sapien AI secures a $5 million Series A funding led by Primitive Ventures, and Animoca for blockchain-based infrastructure to train AI models.

Sapien AI has announced a $5 million Series A financing lead by Primitive Ventures, Animoca, Ravikant Capital, and Yield Guild Games. The business is constructing a blockchain-based training infrastructure for AI models.

By adding labels to text, photos, and other forms of data, users can utilize the platform to help machine learning models learn from the data. The startup is developing an AI data marketplace for enterprises by generating a network of human-powered AI training data.

According to Sapien, the company would use the additional funding to quicken the development of its blockchain-powered gamified data labeling AI training models. The business compensates data labelers (sapiens) for accurate annotations using decentralized ledger technology.

“We are thrilled to have the support of our investors on our path to building the world’s largest network of ‘Sapiens’—our b brand for the millions of humans globally who power today’s most important AI models,” said Trevor Koverko, co-founder of Sapien, in a statement regarding the fundraising.

The platform of the organization has already drawn a wide array of businesses, including Web3, healthcare, education, and top LLMs.

James Ho, Head of Animoca Ventures, views Sapien’s unique approach to data labeling, which combines cutting-edge technology with human knowledge, as a key distinction.

“We think the team will be a great partner for businesses trying to train their AI models with the best data available because of their in-depth knowledge of the industry and dedication to customer success,” Ho stated.

The latest in a long line of Web3 companies seeking to combine artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies is Sapien.

In a funding round headed by Lightspeed last month, FLock, an AI training company, raised $6 million, and MyShell, a Web3 AI startup, raised $11 million in pre-Series A funding led by Dragonfly. Jump Capital and Cypher Capital led a $7.5 million investment round for Raiinmaker, another AI training startup.
