Solana Mining Protocol Pauses Due to Congestion

Hardhat Chad informed his followers of the organization’s decision to cease the Solana mining project due to increased congestion.

In a recent post on X, Hardhat Chad, a pseudonymous contributor to the Solana-based protocol Ore, informed his followers of the organization’s decision to cease the Solana mining project due to increased congestion in Solana.

Ore Mining Intensity Adds To Congestion Woes

At this point, the developer believes that this move will benefit members of the Solana and Ore communities. Furthermore, Hardhat Chad is confident that this approach will expedite the release of version 2, expected in the coming weeks.

It would appear that the implementation of ore mining may have contributed to the worsening of the congestion in Solana. It is noteworthy that the Ore Project was founded approximately two weeks ago and Chaofan Shou, a PhD student at the University of Berkeley, tweeted about how he earns $10,000 every day from mining ORE.

Almost immediately after its discovery, the Solana community began mining the coin, drawing immediate attention. The surge in interest and mining triggered more transactions on Solana, exacerbating the network’s congestion issues.

Anatoly Yakovenko, one of Solana’s co-founders, speculated that ORE forking would be able to help resolve the potentially dangerous congestion problems.

As a result, he made an open proposal available to anyone interested in forking ORE as a means of putting the network through its paces. The main objective was to generate sufficient traffic through the attention that it would generate, which is a step that can address the problem of network congestion that the blockchain has been experiencing.

Shou first introduced ORE as a token based on Solana. However, most cases involve the use of a mining method to claim the tokens. Yakovenko, who bases his setup on bloXroute and Jito Bundles, believes that everyone should embrace the lucrative nature of the enterprise.

Alternative Solutions To Tackle Solana Mining Congestion

He believes that forking it for a more mainstream embrace will appeal to everyone. Given the recent developments, it appears that forking ORE is not the solution that Solana needs in order to manage the frequent congestion that occurs on the network.

Additionally, Solana is interested in investigating a variety of different approaches. Solana has released an upgrade for mainnet beta validators, version 1.17.31, in order to address congestion concerns that have been occurring in the network.

In accordance with Solana’s statement, the release includes “enhancements that will help alleviate the ongoing congestion on the Solana Network.”

On the one hand, there is Stake Weighted Quality of Service (SWQoS), which will function as a Sybil/spam discriminating engine, hence offering security against spam activities on a worldwide scale.

Given that the Solana network has experienced frequent congestion, this is a utility that has been considered for implementation.

Considering that ore mining has been put on hold, it is quite possible that Solana would select one of these alternate alternatives in order to supplement the mainnet congestion fix that was introduced earlier.
