Police Investigation Ensues as South Korea Grapples with Somesing Blockchain Compromise
Somesing’s blog post indicates that the breach took place on January 27. Out of the stolen SSX tokens, 504 million remained unallocated and were initially slated for circulation by the conclusion of 2025.
Additionally, the fund possessed 226 million SSX tokens.
The project team emphasized that the hacking incident is presumed to have been executed by professional hackers who specialize in compromising virtual assets and are not linked to any member of the Somesing squad.
The police were called upon to investigate the incident by the platform team. Interpol partner Uppsala Security and the Klaytn Foundation (whose blockchain is utilized by Somesing) assist the karaoke platform in locating the fraudster.
Prominent South Korean exchanges halted SSX deposits and withdrawals in response to the incident.
Another initiative, GAMEE, was the target of a hacker attack the previous week. Unidentified individuals obtained access to contracts for gaming platform (GMEE) tokens on January 22 and stole $7 million.
In response to the news, GMEE fell by nearly 50%. Unidentified individuals compromised the GitLab service, which is utilized for administering and storing repositories, according to the investigation.
Therefore, they could obtain illicit access to GMEE token contracts.
