Trump specifically addresses the alarming rise of deepfakes generated by AI, emphasizing their capacity to incite conflict.
In a forthcoming broadcast interview, former U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on the globally disruptive technology of AI, stating that it is “possibly the most hazardous thing out there.”
A preview excerpt from an interview conducted by Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business featured Trump expressing his views on various subjects, including CBDCs and artificial intelligence.
Trump’s Warning: AI Poses Unprecedented Risks
“The AI, as they refer to it, is terrifying,” Trump stated on Sunday Morning Futures. “I believe [it] may be the most perilous entity in existence due to the absence of a viable resolution.”
Particularly generative AI, artificial intelligence has captivated the globe since its introduction to the public a year ago. An unfavorable consequence of the widespread adoption of AI tools has been an upsurge in deepfakes produced by AI.
This includes deepfakes featuring the 2024 Republican presidential candidate and his adversary, the incumbent President of the United States, Joe Biden.
“Recently, I witnessed someone scam me off by having me deliver a speech about their product,” Trump stated. “I stated unequivocally, ‘I will never endorse that; in fact, I can’t even distinguish it from the competition.'”
The internet has been inundated with AI-generated deepfakes featuring prominent individuals, such as Taylor Swift, Trump, Biden, Pope Francis, Tom Hanks, and most recently, Biden.
Trump advocated for action in the interview concerning artificial intelligence and deepfakes generated by AI, expressing concern that the technology could be utilized to incite conflict.
President Trump stated, “Immediate action is required to address this matter.” “And specifically, no one knows what to do.”
Last summer, the United Nations and its Secretary-General expressed comparable apprehension.
A United Nations report stated, “All stakeholders should take immediate and urgent action to ensure the responsible, secure, safe, ethical, and human rights-compliant use of artificial intelligence and to address the implications of recent developments in this field for the dissemination of misinformation, hate speech, and security.”
Trump referred to AI as an issue that requires immediate attention.
“In an interview with you, what you say is virtually irrelevant,” Trump stated. “They can rearrange elements so that not even experts can discern the difference; it is impossible to discern the difference.” This presents a significant security challenge.”
Gary Gensler, chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, has also expressed concern regarding deepfakes and their danger to international markets.
Gensler stated, “I believe we have solid laws, but these new technologies will challenge them.” “Using AI to conduct deepfakes on the market poses a significant risk to the markets,” he continued, adding, “Fraud is fraud.”
OpenAI issued a statement last month outlining its strategy for utilizing ChatGPT to combat misinformation before the 2024 election season.
OpenAI stated in a blog post, “As we prepare for elections in 2024 across the world’s largest democracies, our strategy is to continue our platform safety work by enhancing transparency, enforcing measured policies, and elevating accurate voting information.”
