Tyrese Haliburton Eyes Crypto for Salary Portion

Tyrese Haliburton and fellow player Mac McClung gained firsthand experience with cryptocurrencies at an NBA event.

Tyrese Haliburton, an NBA All-Star and professional basketball player, has expressed interest in receiving a portion of his salary in cryptocurrency.

In an interview with 2024 NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung, the 24-year-old point guard for the Indiana Pacers discussed his endeavors with cryptocurrency.

“Never would I wish to say never,” declared Haliburton. “My schedule prevents me from day trading, but my sibling does so frequently.”

Consequently, I could see myself transferring a substantial portion of my contract funds to my brother so he could engage in day trading and monitor market declines. I fully anticipate that that could very well occur for me.”

McClung declared, “I would never rule it out.”

Recently, the two individuals gained firsthand experience with cryptocurrencies during the Coinbase-hosted “moonshot” event at the annual NBA All-Star weekend.

A custom-made dome was present at the event, where participants and spectators were challenged to fire the ball at the “speed of crypto.”

“The technology was incredible!” Haliburton exclaimed.

It is not a novel occurrence that professional basketball and cryptocurrency intersect. The Crypto.com Arena serves as the venue for the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers.

In contrast, the Miami Heat previously performed at the FTX Arena until its name changed after the exchange’s bankruptcy.

“The NBA is witnessing an increasing presence of cryptocurrencies,” Haliburton said. “This is especially true in light of the partnership between Coinbase and the NBA; the mere presence of the Coinbase brand has prompted more discussions in recent times.”

“The issue extends beyond the athletes as well. Everyone, including instructors and security personnel, is discussing it.”

Tyrese Haliburton’s Ethereum and NFT Journey

Tyrese Haliburton stated that although he was initially introduced to Bitcoin, he was drawn to Ethereum because most NFTs were hosted on its blockchain.

“Bitcoin was on my radar a few years ago.” Spencer Dinwiddie made the inaugural statement in the history of the NBA. “I attended college at this time,” Haliburton explained.

“Because Ethereum was the blockchain I utilized for NFTs, it was the initial cryptocurrency I became involved in; thus, I have made substantial investments in Ethereum. Bitcoin is my investment of choice because it is the blue gem of cryptocurrencies.”
